We would need more information to provide a proper answer. However, some troubleshooting steps could include checking if the software is updated, restarting the computer, or reinstalling the program.

Hi!

I recently had to clean my PC because it was infected with a virus, so I did a complete wipe. However, when we tried to watch a DVD on the PC, we noticed the PowerDVD application has also been removed, and I wondered how to get it back without having to purchase another copy as it came with the Lenovo tower that we purchased around 3 years ago.

All you have to do is to click the download button on the application's Software Informer page, download the installer on your PC and run it. Since PowerDVD10 can only be installed on a Lenovo system, the tool doesn't cost anything.

In case you can't install the program, there are many other solutions that you can use to play DVDs and that won't cost you a thing: I recommend installing VLC media player as it's one of the best tools out there, but you could also try GOM Player or MPC-HC.

If you really want to install Lenovo PowerDVD10 and you run into the "This application can only be installed on a Lenovo system" error, there's a workaround, but it takes a lot of effort. Press Win + R on your keyboard, type msinfo32 in the Run box that pops up and hit Enter. In the window that opens up, look for the System Manufacturer filed and copy the manufacturer's name, exactly as it's written there.

For the next step, you will need to install a tool like 7-zip or WinRAR, and manually unpack the installer file that you downloaded. Now, go to the folder where you unpacked the files, look for one called custom.ini and open it. Inside the .ini file, look for the line: CLScan=LEGEND Dragon (near the bottom of the page) and change "LEGEND Dragon" into the manufacturer that you've copied from the System Information window. (It's case sensitive so you need to write it exactly the same.) Finally, save the text file, then run Setup.exe from the unpacked folder and the installer will now work.

Been having some Windows DVD problems on the Lenovo X510. The DVD drive is not autostarting, not found in explorer, freezes/system crashes while trying to watch movies, etc.

I tried uninstalling PowerDVD 10 for a fresh reinstall, so here I was. At end of installation it was aborted with the above error, stating "This can only be installed on a Lenovo system". Went to Lenovo website looking for the DVD software/drivers/support.

Tried VLC to watch DVDs; drive and video plays, but no sound. Looked for MP4 codecs, but found only malware/incorrect versions.

Every website that I found lists the compatibility model to G770 notebook which means that it might not run properly on your PC. As far as I know, VLC is capable of opening DVDs without any issue and it also doesn't require codecs to work properly, but if you insist on installing some, then CCCP Codecs can be used since they're open source and malware free.

There is also KMPlayer available for playback: http://www.kmplayer.com/

I have just updated my Lenovo laptop from Windows 8.1 to 10 and when I wanted to return my Lenovo PowerDVD I got a message telling me that this program only works on Lenovo software, and really my device is Lenovo.

I think the problem is with the compatibility of PowerDVD and Windows 10. I've checked the web and all the associated websites, but didn't find anything related to Windows 10 which could also mean that PowerDVD10 is not compatible with Windows 10, therefore the error that appears. You will have to wait until PowerDVD gets updated or downgrade Windows 10. You have month to do that using the Get Back option found in Start > Settings > Backup and Recovery > Recovery.
